In this interactive workshop, you will work with GOA instructional designers to leverage blended learning to transform traditional lessons into modern learning experiences. By tackling design challenges using core competencies and proven tech integration strategies, you will leave the studio with a process, a product, and a pedagogy to use in your school community. The workshop’s hands-on activities will be relevant to school leaders and teachers as well as academic and technology directors.

Whether giving feedback to students or colleagues or receiving it from them, we’re often navigating feedback. Yet despite its prevalence, how comfortable are we with giving it? How much do we relish receiving it? How often is it digested and applied? Given the energy, efforts, and anxiety that surround feedback, it’s worth our attention, especially because when it’s working, it’s invaluable.

Many of the latest trends in education — personalized learning, blended learning, design thinking, etc. — demand one essential skill: the ability to understand and design for the learner experience. The goal of this session is to share how Global Online Academy and One Schoolhouse — leaders in online learning for independent schools — have used quantitative and qualitative data to design for and from the learner experience. We have taken an entrepreneurial approach to our work: studying our students and courses closely, and being responsive and nimble in our design of learner-driven experiences. We’ve developed best practices in using data to build empathy and inform instructional design. Critically, this work is not limited to online learning environments. Participants in this session will engage with examples, best practices, and prompts to help them bring learner experience design into their own classrooms and communities.
