Learning Design Summit Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Learning Design Summit?

The Learning Design Summit brings forward-thinking teachers and school leaders from around the world together in a beautiful setting to dive more deeply into what learning can and should look like in a modern world. You will be exposed to new ideas in education and have the time to apply them to your work as an educator — in your courses, classrooms, and schools.

When and where is it?

Episcopal High School is in Alexandria, Virginia, and is located 10 minutes from Ronald Reagan National Airport as well as in close proximity to restaurants, coffee shops, and all that Washington D.C. has to offer. We will create opportunities to explore Washington D.C. while we are there. Episcopal High School is located on 130 acres and has many trails for walking and running in addition to beautiful settings for learning - both indoors and outside.

How much does the Learning Design Summit cost?

The total cost is $1400 per person. Pricing includes all meals, lodging, and programming beginning with dinner on Monday, June 24th through Thursday, June 27th. All lodging is provided in EHS dormitories. Most people will have a roommate in shared lodging. If you prefer a single room, please make note of this in the "Notes" section of your registration and we will try to accommodate on a first come, first served basis. All efforts will be made to match you with a great roommate. A 10% discount is available for school-based teams of 4 or more. You are also invited to spend the night Thursday, June 27th and depart after breakfast on Friday, June 28th.

When should I arrive and depart?

Arrive by 5pm ET on Monday, June 24th for reception and dinner. Plan to book a flight home for 9pm or later on Thursday, June 27th. You are also welcome to stay for breakfast and goodbyes on Friday.

Please note: If you have been hired as a new member of the GOA Student Program faculty, you are to arrive by 5pmET on Sunday, June 23rd to be ready for your orientation training the next day.

Why the change in venue to Episcopal High School from Islandwood near Seattle?

GOA is growing, and last year we sold out at Islandwood! We’re moving to Episcopal High School to accommodate our growing numbers and because of its central location in a major city near two international airports (Washington Dulles and Ronald Reagan) near Washington, D.C.

Is there a discount for a school team?

The Learning Design Summit is ideal for teams to move forward on collaborative projects. If you have a group of 4 or more from your school, you can receive a 10% discount per person. Please go ahead and register as an individual. You have two options for payment. 1. You can pay via credit card. 2. You may choose to have your school invoiced if you are from a GOA member school. You will receive a 10% refund via credit card or refund on your invoice once we have a record of your group.

If I came last year, will I benefit from coming again?

Yes. We will have new and different workshops, including deeper dives into competency-based learning and assessment. Each participant will work directly with an expert coach and will be part of a small advisory group. We set aside time for coach-supported independent work to allow participants to move forward on their projects. All participants will have the opportunity to share their learning at the end of the Summit.

Why should I come?

Come for the speakers, come for the coaching, come for the workshops, come for the job-embedded training. Come because you like to stay a step ahead. Come for the upskilling. Come to learn about competency-based learning. Come because you have something to offer to the conversation and because you want to soak it all in. Come to see old friends and colleagues. Come to meet some new ones.
