Reframe: Nonlinear Learning for Agency

How can we design learning experiences that give students more agency without sacrificing structure and clarity? Nonlinear learning design offers frameworks for students to make meaningful choices, progress at their own pace, and engage with content in ways that fit their needs.

This asynchronous, pop-up course offers practical inspiration, examples, and strategies for designing nonlinear learning experiences. Participants will take an existing unit or project and rethink time and space to create differentiated pathways that maintain sequence while enhancing engagement and deepening learning. Rooted in competency-based learning principles but accessible to all teachers, nonlinear design empowers students to take charge of their next steps. In three hours or less, we’ll leave with small but mighty shifts that drive big impacts on student agency.
