Design Bootcamp

Stay tuned for future offerings of our Design Bootcamp!

We are offering a one week program, our Design Bootcamp, for teachers. Based on programming we have used to train our GOA faculty for the last nine years, this one week program will prepare teachers to:

    • design online learning experiences that promote student agency
    • build community in online spaces, including peer to peer relationships and student and teacher relationships
    • design assessments that allow both students and teachers to know what students are learning with an emphasis on evidence of student work
    • incorporate wayfinding and best practices in the smooth and intuitive design of online learning spaces
    • self-assess and reflect upon their pedagogy and practice in online teaching and learning
    • review and provide meaningful feedback on colleagues' work products as well as receive feedback on their own work

    What can I expect?

Each day, participants will immerse themselves in a learning cycle which concludes with a short design sprint. There will be opportunities to participate in discussions, ask questions, and share draft work products with a community of educators each day. All work and correspondence will be asynchronous through email and course discussion spaces. This is to accommodate a variety of time zones and allow for maximum flexibility. Educators can expect three to five hours of work per day.

Although the program draws from principles of our online courses (such as GOA's Designing for Online Learning), this program involves the creation and sharing of work products and features new GOA tools including self-assessment rubrics for evaluating quality in online courses.

Participants will leave with a fully designed online learning experience for students. On the final day of the program, participants will share their learning in an asynchronous online presentation of learning. This program is ideal for individual educators or school-based teams.

    What People Are Saying

"'Our faculty said this was the best PD that they've ever experienced." Sue Belcher, The Downtown School: A Lakeside School

"I would definitely recommend this to a colleague because GOA challenged me to get outside of my comfort zone and tackle technological task in creating student friendly instructional videos, applications, and more importantly, build relationships while keeping students engaged through multiple platforms." Micah Edwards, Sanford School

"I felt like I could have taken this course 3 more times and been challenged each time to create effective learning in many ways." Pam Matson, Rocky Hill Country Day School

"The program was exceptionally organized and the teaching staff was supportive, encouraging and welcoming. The overall structure for learning was effectively designed to inspire our exploration of many resources that would improve our teaching strategies." Carol Restifo, Merion-Mercy Academy

"My experience with GOA was wonderful. The curriculum was super helpful. The platform was easy to navigate. The Group Coaches were knowledgable and responsive. I learned a great deal during my week course." Jessica Shaheen, Immaculate Heart Academy

    Why should I join?

This is for educators who wish to productively maximize their time in an immersive online learning program, with access to a GOA coach. We want to emphasize the time intense nature of this design bootcamp. You need to have dedicated time each day to complete this program on time. You will learn a replicable framework for subsequent online learning course design and leave with final finished products.

    Who is this for?

This program is for middle and high school teachers and those who will design and facilitate online learning experiences at their schools. Although this program is not geared toward elementary school or lower school educators, elementary school educators can register and tailor the content to meet their needs.

    What tools do I need?

We do not mandate tools or a specific LMS, nor will this program be specific to any particular LMS. This program takes place on GOA’s platform and leverages our learning management system, Canvas. You will need a laptop or tablet and internet capabilities to participate.
