Music Composition & Production
Course Overview
Tell Stories Through Music: In this course, you’ll learn how to shape sound into songs that spark imagination and emotion. You’ll experiment with melody, rhythm, harmony, texture, and form while using digital tools for recording, sequencing, sampling, arranging, and editing. Along the way, you’ll explore how music functions across genres and cultures, drawing ideas from classical composers like Mozart and Ravel to contemporary DJs and digital artists. Weekly creative challenges will build your technical skills and artistic voice as you work toward a culminating project that showcases your unique style.
Why Take This Course? Through beat-making, songwriting, remixing, and sound design, you’ll practice turning inspiration into polished tracks in a collaborative environment that includes peer and instructor feedback. Whether you’re new to music or already producing, this course gives you space to experiment and build a portfolio of original creations.
Students in GOA courses will need reliable access to a computer with webcam/microphone connections, an email address (preferably school-based), a Web-conferencing app (GOA courses use Zoom), and a Word processing app (GOA courses use Google’s G Suite). When necessary, alternative arrangements may be made. Some courses require additional materials which can be found in the Course Outline.
